About

Juvenile Justice Defense Group

Juvenile criminal defense: information for parents about juvenile charges and juvenile court, and a way to ask our attorney about a child's case.

What this site covers

Juvenile Justice Defense Group is about juvenile criminal defense: what can happen when a young person is investigated, arrested, detained or charged; the stages of a juvenile court case; the charges parents ask about most; transfer to adult court; and what a juvenile case can mean for school and for a record. Juvenile law is state law, so the site is organised state by state, with California covered in the most depth.

Careful information. No promises about outcomes.

Juvenile cases turn on the state, the allegation, the young person’s history and the facts. This site is designed to help parents understand the questions and find the relevant pages, not to give a personal legal conclusion or predict any outcome.

What happens when you contact us

When you call or send a request, tell us what happened, where your child is now and any court date that has been set. The Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use explain how the information you send is used.

A national site

Pages about a state or a county describe that place’s juvenile court system from its own official sources. A county page states the area it covers; no page on this site presents a local attorney, an office or a licence in any state or county.

How the pages are written and checked

The Editorial Standards page explains how pages are drafted, which sources they rely on and what is checked before a page is published. Content pages name their reviewing attorney in one small line at the end of the page.
